NatEx 2020 X-Factor Awards
Runner up – Business Growth Award
Recently, I attended The Natupreneur Experience (NatEx) conference for naturopaths from all over Australia and New Zealand. It was a weekend of fun, connection, inspiration and celebration. One of the biggest things I have as a naturopath is this amazing community of support from other naturopaths, several of whom have become some of my closest friends. So, naturally, attending a conference like this one and being able to see them all was what I loved most about the experience.
Throughout the conference we heard from Paula Hann of Metagenics, a beautiful lady who again shared with us the importance of ‘US’ in businesses and being a leader by loving your work. She spoke about some of her lessons, how life can’t always be easy and how she has learnt to turn challenges from fears into something she can learn and grow from. This resonated with me and I feel it is not only applicable to owning and running a business but is also relevant for everyone I help in clinic. We all go through things and each of us has challenges—after all, we are human. However, rather than being paralysed and stuck in fear of these challenges, it’s time to step into them and learn from them.
Since attending the conference, little reminders have been appearing about what I learnt. Here’s an infographic that popped up in my Facebook feed to keep reminding me – maybe it will help you too!
Being nominated and winning Runner up – Business Growth Award meant so much to me. It’s recognition for all the love, passion and ongoing time I constantly pour into my business at Kismet Health.
And it’s very timely to have received this award. This month my business Kismet Health turns three and our multi-modality clinic Kismet Health Hub turns two. Over these years, the growth of my business has been huge. It’s not just about financial growth but also in the way that it operates through our team, processes and services. Some of the largest growth has been personal. I’ve spent time working on what I truly want – how to build and nourish relationships, having people in your business who support you, cheer you on and just fit, how to communicate all while learning that the YOU in any business is one of the most important things as a business owner. There is no business if there is no me. Knowing my values, my strengths and the things that make me happy and light me up has been key to finding a place within my business where happiness has emerged.
I am also truly proud of the achievement, and that our clinic is testament to the fact that we can make it in this profession and industry. During my final year at Uni in 2016, I was told that only 3% of naturopaths will make it. It might not always be easy, some days you might want to throw it all in – I’ve been there! – but just remember (to every health professional reading this) we have a gift, we are able to help change people’s lives. If you have the opportunity to do this on either a small or large scale, do it and just keep doing it. Help me show people that there is no 3% and that by supporting each other in business and in our profession, it is possible to make it.
There are so many people who support me and this is part of my growth. I want to say a huge thanks to everyone who is always there for me including my husband and our families, Tammy and my various mentors along the way, the many different small groups of practitioners and, importantly, our Kismet team and all of our clients who mean so much to me.
No matter where you are in your business journey, remember why you’re doing it – our role in this world is life changing!
Big love, Karly xo
